For writing programs

Every book your writers have published, in one place.

A free shelf for your writing program: your faculty and alumni, each with a short bio and their books. Every book opens to a page where a reader can review it, or ask their library or bookstore to carry it.

Set up your shelf

You send us your writers and their books. We build the shelf.

What your writing program gets.

  • One page for all your writers. Faculty and alumni, searchable by name, sorted by graduation year. Headshots when you have the rights to them, or name cards.
  • A page for each writer. Their bio, their website, and every book, newest first.
  • A page for every book. Readers review it on the sites they use, or ask their library or bookstore to carry it. Books that have been out for years stay in circulation.
  • On your own site, if you like. Link to the shelf, or place it on one of your pages with a few lines of embed code. Nothing for us to install.
  • Which writers draw the most attention. Page views for your shelf and each writer’s page. Nothing about visitors is kept.

How it works.

  1. Sign up with your writing program’s name and your email.
  2. Send us your writers and their books. A spreadsheet with each writer’s name and their books’ ISBNs, or titles, is all we need. If you keep an alumni-books page, give us its address and we read the books from it.
  3. We build the shelf: a cover, store links and a reader page for every book, and a short bio from each writer’s own website when you list it. A book goes on your shelf only when your sheet or your page lists it.
  4. You look over anything uncertain. A title we could not match to one edition waits for your yes. Nothing goes up that you have not listed.
  5. Share it. Once your shelf opens, tell your alumni their books are on it.

Built for accessibility.

Writing program shelves are built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice’s ADA Title II rule sets for public universities’ websites, including content from vendors. Every page is tested against WCAG 2.1 A and AA in light and dark mode before it ships. It works with a keyboard alone, labels every control for screen readers and has been tested with one, and reads at 320 pixels wide and at 200% text size. Our accessibility conformance report (VPAT format) has the detail.

The embed loads only your shelf inside a frame. It runs no scripts on your page, sets no cookies and loads no trackers. Our page for your web team has the embed code, what it loads, the one security setting a locked-down site may need, and our accessibility conformance report.

Questions.

What does it cost?
Nothing. PostShop earns when writers choose to use PostShop for their own books.
Who can appear on our shelf?
Only the writers and books you list. No one else can add a writer or a book.
Do we have to maintain it?
No. Add new alumni when you like, from the dashboard or by uploading your spreadsheet again. Uploading again never removes anyone.
What about headshots?
They are off unless you turn them on, and you upload only photos you have the right to use. Otherwise each writer has a card with their initials.
What do we see?
Page views of your shelf and each writer’s page. Reviews, library and bookstore requests and readers’ messages belong to the writers.
