| Name of product | PostShop writing program shelf: the shelf page and each writer’s page, opened at postshop.live or embedded in a writing program’s own site |
|---|---|
| Version | Release of October 30, 2026 |
| Report date | October 31, 2026 |
| Description | A writing program’s shelf lists its faculty and alumni writers, with search, a faculty or alumni filter and a sort. Each writer’s page shows their books and a short bio, and both pages can link to the writing program’s own page. Book links open the book’s reader page on postshop.live. |

Scope
This report covers the pages a visitor to a writing program shelf sees: postshop.live/shelf/<shelf> and postshop.live/shelf/<shelf>/<writer>, in both their full-page form and the form shown inside an embed (?embed=1). It does not cover a book’s reader page, which a book link opens in a new tab and which our Accessibility statement covers, or the writing program’s own dashboard.
Evaluation methods
- Automated testing with axe-core against every WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 Level A and AA rule, in Chromium, in light and dark mode, at 1280, 390 and 320 pixels wide, on a shelf with 12 writers and on writer pages, full-page and embedded. Result: no violations.
- Scripted checks in the same browser: tabbing through every page to confirm each control is reached, in order, with a visible focus outline; 320-pixel reflow; 200% text size; the WCAG 1.4.12 text-spacing values; contrast of text, field borders, buttons and focus outlines measured from the rendered colors.
- Review of the page code for headings, landmarks, labels, image alternatives, status messages and error handling.
- A session with a screen reader by a person, on October 31, 2026: VoiceOver on macOS with Chrome, on a writing program shelf with faculty and alumni sections, a writer page, a book’s reader page, the embedded shelf and the writing program dashboard. Headings, landmarks, link names, control labels, filter result announcements and the order of reading were checked on each. Result: no problems found.
Applicable standards
| Standard | Included in report |
|---|---|
| Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 | Level A (Yes), Level AA (Yes), Level AAA (No) |
| Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 | Level A (Yes), Level AA (Yes), Level AAA (No) |
The U.S. Department of Justice’s 2024 rule under Title II of the ADA sets WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the standard for web content of state and local government entities, including public universities. The Revised Section 508 Standards incorporate WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Both are covered by the tables below.
Terms
- Supports: the functionality has at least one method that meets the criterion without known defects.
- Partially Supports: some functionality does not meet the criterion.
- Does Not Support: the majority of the functionality does not meet the criterion.
- Not Applicable: the criterion is not relevant to the product.
Table 1: Success Criteria, Level A
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1.1 Non-text Content | Supports | Book covers and headshots sit inside links whose text is the book title or the writer’s name, so the images are marked decorative (empty alt) and the name or title is read once. The writing program’s logo is decorative; its name is the page heading. A writer without a headshot shows initials in a circle, which is hidden from screen readers for the same reason. |
| 1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | The pages have no audio or video. |
| 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No video. |
| 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No video. |
| 1.3.1 Info and Relationships | Supports | Header, main and footer landmarks; one level-one heading per page; writers and books are lists with accessible names (“Writers”, “Books by …”); every search box, filter and sort has a label. |
| 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence | Supports | Reading order in the code matches the visual order at every width. |
| 1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics | Supports | No instruction relies on shape, size, position or sound. |
| 1.4.1 Use of Color | Supports | Color carries no meaning on its own. Links are named by their text. |
| 1.4.2 Audio Control | Not Applicable | No audio. |
| 2.1.1 Keyboard | Supports | Every link and control is reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, tested by tabbing through each page from start to end. |
| 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap | Supports | Focus moves out of every control. In an embed, Tab and Shift+Tab move into the frame, through it and out to the host page in both directions (tested on a test host page). |
| 2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts | Not Applicable | The pages define no keyboard shortcuts. |
| 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable | Not Applicable | Nothing on the pages is timed. |
| 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide | Not Applicable | Nothing moves, blinks, scrolls or updates on its own. |
| 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold | Supports | Nothing flashes. |
| 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks | Supports | Landmarks and headings let a screen reader user move past the short page header to the list. The header holds only the writing program’s name and logo, so there is no navigation block to repeat. |
| 2.4.2 Page Titled | Supports | The shelf page is titled with the writing program’s name, and a writer’s page with the writer’s name followed by that same name. In an embed, the frame’s title is set by the code your web team pastes, which includes one. |
| 2.4.3 Focus Order | Supports | Focus follows the reading order. Filtering or sorting the list does not move focus. |
| 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) | Supports | Each writer link is the writer’s name and details; each book link is the book’s title. Other links name where they go (the writer’s website, the writing program’s shelf). |
| 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures | Not Applicable | Nothing needs a multipoint or path-based gesture. |
| 2.5.2 Pointer Cancellation | Supports | Links and buttons act on release (standard HTML behavior); nothing acts on press. |
| 2.5.3 Label in Name | Supports | Each control’s accessible name contains its visible label or placeholder text. |
| 2.5.4 Motion Actuation | Not Applicable | Nothing responds to device motion. |
| 3.1.1 Language of Page | Supports | Each page declares English (lang="en"). |
| 3.2.1 On Focus | Supports | Focusing a control changes nothing. |
| 3.2.2 On Input | Supports | Typing in the search box or choosing a filter or sort narrows or reorders the list in place. The page, the focus and the window stay where they are, and the number of writers shown is announced. |
| 3.3.1 Error Identification | Not Applicable | The pages take no typed input that can be wrong: the only fields are a search box and choices from lists. |
| 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions | Supports | The search box and each filter and sort have a label. |
| 4.1.1 Parsing | Supports | The pages are generated from templates with valid, unique IDs. (In WCAG 2.1 as amended in 2023, this criterion is always satisfied for HTML.) |
| 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value | Supports | Native HTML controls only (links, buttons, inputs, selects), each with an accessible name. No custom widgets. |
Table 2: Success Criteria, Level AA
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2.4 Captions (Live) | Not Applicable | No live media. |
| 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No video. |
| 1.3.4 Orientation | Supports | The pages work in portrait and landscape; nothing locks orientation. |
| 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose | Not Applicable | The pages ask nothing about the visitor; the only field is a search box. |
| 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) | Supports | Measured from the rendered colors of every piece of text: with PostShop’s colors the lowest is 6.1:1 in light mode and 8.0:1 in dark mode. A writing program can choose its own background and accent colors; the text color is then chosen for that background, secondary text is set to at least 4.5:1, links take the accent only when it reaches 4.5:1, and text on the accent (writers’ initials, plain covers) is black or white, whichever is higher, which is at least 4.58:1 on any color. No choice can lower text below 4.5:1. A background picture sits behind panels in the background color, so it never affects text contrast. |
| 1.4.4 Resize Text | Supports | At 200% text size the pages lose no content or function and do not scroll sideways, at phone and desktop widths. |
| 1.4.5 Images of Text | Supports | Text is text. Book covers are pictures of the actual covers, which is an essential use of an image. |
| 1.4.10 Reflow | Supports | At 320 CSS pixels wide (400% zoom of a 1280-pixel window) every page reads in one column with no horizontal scrolling. |
| 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast | Supports | Search and select borders at least 9.3:1 against the page with PostShop’s colors, and at least 4.5:1 with a writing program’s own colors; the keyboard focus outline (3 pixels) at least 15:1 with PostShop’s colors and drawn in the text color with the shelf’s own. |
| 1.4.12 Text Spacing | Supports | With line height 1.5, paragraph spacing 2, letter spacing 0.12 and word spacing 0.16 applied, no text is cut off or overlaps. |
| 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus | Not Applicable | Nothing appears on hover or focus. |
| 2.4.5 Multiple Ways | Supports | Every writer page is reached from the shelf’s full list of writers and from its search; each writer page links back to the shelf. |
| 2.4.6 Headings and Labels | Supports | Headings name the writing program, the writer and the books; labels name each control. |
| 2.4.7 Focus Visible | Supports | Every link and control shows a 3-pixel outline when it has keyboard focus, in light and dark mode. |
| 3.1.2 Language of Parts | Partially Supports | A writer’s bio is quoted from the writer’s own website. A passage in a language other than English inside a bio is not marked with its language. Names and book titles are exempt. |
| 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation | Supports | The header, the link back to the shelf and the footer are in the same place on every page. |
| 3.2.4 Consistent Identification | Supports | Controls with the same function have the same name throughout. |
| 3.3.3 Error Suggestion | Not Applicable | No typed input can be wrong (see 3.3.1). |
| 3.3.4 Error Prevention (Legal, Financial, Data) | Not Applicable | The pages take no legal, financial or account data. |
| 4.1.3 Status Messages | Supports | The number of writers shown after a search or filter is announced through a role="status" region without moving focus. |
